PSHE/RSE

At Moreton our curriculum promotes learners who are: Healthy, resilient, creative, inquisitive, respectful citizens who will make a difference in the world.  Developing the whole child personally and socially is important to us and we ensure that children understand the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.  We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.  Children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life.   Our curriculum links to our whole school values and collective worship themes.

How we teach PSHE 

We teach PSHE as a planned, developmental program from Reception through to Year 6.  Our lessons focus

• Relationships and Health Education
• Economic Wellbeing and Careers Education

Topics linked so that children build on their knowledge from developing friendships in early years to online safety, puberty and mental health.  Classes have regular timetabled lessons and learn through open discussions, stories, group activities and creative problem solving.  Through our curriculum, children learn to understand and manage their emotions and how to form healthy respectful relationships.  Through our behaviour policy and behaviour curriculum, children gain the tools to make safe decisions online and in the real world.

We use a variety of resources to teach PSHE including from the PSHE association and the Goodness and Mercy scheme.  We utilise our forest school so that children can develop their inter-personal and communication skills by working together to solve problems.  Our RSHE policy details how we teach about relationships in an age-appropriate way.
